Where the stories come from

Locally Sourced, Field-Driven

Most of our stories are gathered directly from Somali communities — through interviews, field visits, and partnerships with local NGOs and volunteers working on the ground.

Contributors From the Field

SHM works with volunteer writers, field workers, researchers, and photographers who have firsthand access to the situations they document. We prioritize contributors who live and work in the communities they write about.

Collaboration With Humanitarian Partners

Some reports are developed in collaboration with humanitarian organizations who share data, testimonies, or visual content to amplify underreported crises.

Editorial Independence

While we may feature the work of NGOs, we maintain editorial independence and always center the voices of affected communities in how stories are framed.

Verification and Ethics

All contributions are reviewed for accuracy, consent, and respect. We take special care when publishing stories involving children, trauma, or displacement.

Language and Accessibility

All content is produced in Somali as our primary language. Select stories are translated into English to reach a broader audience and support international understanding.
