Abdihakim Isak Dirie

Abdihakim Isak Dirie is the Disaster and Resilience Specialist at the Somali Humanitarian Magazine (SHM). His role focuses on helping the magazine tell real stories about how Somali communities face and recover from crises such as drought, displacement, floods, and conflict.

Abdihakim works closely with writers, researchers, and local organizations to make sure SHM covers these issues with care and accuracy. He helps shape articles that not only explain the risks people face, but also show their resilience — how they adapt, support one another, and rebuild their lives with strength and determination.

With his background in disaster response and community resilience, Abdihakim brings important knowledge and experience to SHM. He helps the team understand the challenges faced in different regions of Somalia and offers guidance on how to report these stories in a respectful and meaningful way.

He believes that showing resilience is just as important as showing need — and that every crisis story should also include hope, dignity, and the voices of those most affected. Thanks to Abdihakim’s insight, SHM is able to give readers a deeper understanding of both the risks Somali communities face and the strength they continue to show in the face of disaster.
